Psychotherapy, Creative Arts Therapy and Coaching with Charlotte McLaughlin

UKCP AND hcPC REGISTERED PSYCHOTHERAPIST

Welcome to my site. My name is Charlotte and I am a fully accredited and experienced psychotherapist working with clients in my London clinics (Harley Street, and the City/Old Street), and around the world through my online practice.

Some of the issues I support people with on a day-to-day basis include:

  • Anxiety and stress
  • Depression
  • Low self-esteem and self worth
  • Eating Disorders (anorexia, emotional overeating, compulsive binge eating, food addiction, bulimia and body image issues)
  • Self harm
  • Addiction
  • Trauma
  • Sexuality and intimacy issues
  • Relationship issues
  • Bereavement and loss
  • Spiritual crisis or loss of meaning in life

I have specialist experience working with individuals and couples experiencing relationship, sexuality and intimacy issues, as well as people struggling with eating disorders, body image issues and low self worth.

Prior to expanding my consultancy and practice full time, I was working as a Senior Therapist for a leading eating disorder outpatient service; facilitating groups on mindfulness, creativity, sexuality, relationships, and body image, alongside in depth individual work. I have extensive experience of working in NHS mental health services, including working as a psychotherapist at Maudsley Hospital and an Arts Psychotherapist in two different NHS Trusts.

Currently I am completing a year long training in Contemporary Trauma Practice which integrates body based approaches, Gestalt and contemporary Neuroscience, providing effective treatment for trauma.

My specialist clinical training and experience gained in different mental health settings coupled with my personal beliefs and interests have enabled me to develop my own unique approach to working therapeutically; a holistic and creative one which addresses the whole person.

I am passionate about my work and supporting people to heal, grow and thrive in their lives.

THERAPY

Therapy is a journey that can develop self awareness, help you to tackle all sorts of behavioural emotional and relational difficulties, and support you to be free to live your potential. I provide a supportive space for you to be able to do this.

No two sessions are ever the same. We will be working together on whatever is currently troubling you; I bring warmth and creativity to the process. My approach is active, empathic and relational; I will certainly challenge you though. My clients often say they look forward to the sessions each week and find that I strike a healthy balance between being caring and supportive, yet also pushing them when they need to be pushed.

As an integrative psychotherapist, I draw on a broad range of theories and styles (Gestalt, Psychoanalytic, Transpersonal, Attachment, Cognitive Behavioural) in order to create the right therapeutic approach for each individual. I am a passionate advocate for mindfulness and regularly interweave this into the work. As a Creative Arts therapist, I am always looking for creative ways in which we can work together to support the process.

Working with the right therapist can be transformational. Though taking that first step to go and meet with a therapist can be a daunting prospect. It’s important to choose a therapist you feel you have a connection with, as a key ingredient to the work is the development of this relationship.

online therapy

I’m committed to this work being easily accessible for people who have busy and demanding lives. For the past few years I have been offering therapy and consultations over telephone and skype for clients in the UK and worldwide. People who travel abroad a lot for work find this convenient, due to the flexibility. Currently I'm working with clients in Europe, the Middle East and Asia through skype. Get in touch if you’re interested in exploring online therapy with me.

Are you ready to take a step forward in your life?

My belief and experience is that with the right support, change is possible. If interested in working with me, the first step is to book in for the initial assessment consultation.  This can take place over Skype or in one of my London clinics. It provides you with an opportunity to meet me, find out more about the way I work, and for us both to get a sense of how it would be for us to work together.
